Artist's Description
Made from colorized, hand cut and hand shaded take out menus from local Chincoteague Island restaurants, this depiction of a blue crab is a tongue and cheek take on the Eastern Shore delicacy. Crab is on the Menu and the menu is the crab.
The original is an assemblage on paper. This piece is best suited for paper prints.
About Kevin Dix
Originally from Chincoteague Island, VA, Kevin Dix now resides in New England. He is a graduate of the college of William and Mary and is currently an MFA candidate at the New England School of Art and Design. The first piece of art Kevin posted for sale online, Crab Is On The Menu, was inspired by his hometown where crabbing was a summertime hobby in his childhood. Eating at the local restaurants has become one in his adulthood. ; ) Other works have been inspired by the later work of Henri Matisse from the early 1950s. This original work embodies a pairing down of both figure and context allowing the play of positive and negative space to tell its own story. Hand mixed paints in contemporary tones and hues applied to cut paper...
